Welcome Message

Welcome Message

The commitment and enthusiasm of our commitees will ensure a memorable event

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

On behalf of the WSPID Board and the International Scientific Committee, it is my great pleasure to invite you to the 12th World Congress of the World Society for Pediatric Infectious Diseases (WSPID) and the 1st Virtual Congress. Due to uncertainty about the evolving COVID-19 situation, especially the varying immunization plans and impact of evolving SARS CoV-2 variants, we feel that safety of our members is paramount. The dates of the Congress are 22-24 February 2022. As the in-person meeting was scheduled for Cancun, Mexico, we have retained the vibrant Mexican theme for the Virtual meeting. We are also highly appreciative of the efforts of the Local Organizing Committee. The Virtual Congress will continue the WSPID tradition of excellence and timeliness of emerging themes in paediatric infectious diseases. We will make great efforts to give space and opportunity for interaction on the virtual platform. In the future we plan to reintroduce in-person meetings and retain the best components of the virtual platform.

WSPID is the only global society that is devoted entirely to pediatric diseases in children. The virtual platform should increase the accessibility of the WSPID program. Our Scientific Committee works hard to bring the best speakers and to address the most important issues in infectious diseases that affect children and their families. This is an opportunity to learn of the latest developments relevant to your patients and interact virtually with world experts in all aspects of pediatric infectious diseases. We will do our best to facilitate in-person interactions through the conference website. As pediatric infectious disease doctors, we have much in common as regardless of where we live. We share a passion to help children through scientific and clinical acumen to address the immense burden of infectious diseases.

We look forwards to your participation in this new format and to meeting again in-person in the not-too-distant future.

Yours sincerely,

Mark Cotton
President, World Society of Pediatric Infectious Diseases
